So I have a five gallon beta tank that has houses my beta fish for around 4-5 years now. He was full grown when I got him and is showing a lot of signs of old age.

Now I'm kicking around ideas for the space he occupies once he one day passes.

I could fit a 20 long there easily.

Saw some Axolotl at Petco of all places, super small and cute. They were clearly being kept in a tank with the temp at about 78-80.

I'm curious can I keep one at room temp with no chiller? House sits at about 70 degrees and the basement around 65 which is where it would be. And the winter it's closer to 60 down there.

Also what else that would be interesting or fun to keep could I put in a 20 long?

Yes axoltol can be kept in a 20g. I believe from memory that they actually prefer colder water (going to double check on this). You could keep a few of them in a 20g. Also read they really like bloodworms. They also love planted tanks so some live plants and shade/hiding spots are great for them.

Most people that keep them keep them as species only though.
