Biological filtration media

So I've been looking up information on filter media and am curious. Does filter floss function well as a biological filter media? Or is it mainly for mechanical filtration like I've been reading on different sites?

You can use it for that, but the sponge foam or bio rings have tons more area for the bacteria to grow. The more surface area, the healthier your biofilter is going to be.
