I have a canister filter for my 10 gallon quarantine tank. It is made for 20 gallon tanks, but I have had it since I had FB Toads. I'm far from any fish right now. In order to have it biologically filter, should I put the sponge into my display tank with the live rock? Or will it just automatically do that?

I would keep the filter media in the main tank thats cycled and when you are ready for the qt to have fish just move the media back in. alot of people use a basic sponge filter for this purpose.

I have a sponge filter, but I figured that I would need the canister filter anyways for water movement.
