Do you have to gravel vac a planted tank?

If you have a heavily planted tank, you would not have to do standard gravel vacs. The fish waste does act as fertilizer. Whether you have to supplement that or not, I do not know.

Some do and some don't. It is all up to you. Like LyndaB said, if it is a heavily planted tank then you probably won't need to. However, I like to vac the areas of my planted tanks that are open. I.E. I will vacuum the front of the tank where there is nothing, but leave the back where my anacharis is alone.

I never vac my gravel in any of my tanks generally though its because its so heavily planted I properly couldn't get to the gravel with the vac anyway :) but I just keep on top of my water changes and its fine
