Feather duster or COLONIAL HYDROIDS

Do colonial hydroids retract like feather dusters? I have a small group of something growing. They look more like the pictures of hydroids I find on searches, but retract into the tubes like feature dusters. No photo - I can't zoom on them with any success.
 
No, they shouldn't retract. Mine just close up like a coral would instead of disappearing into a tube.
 
Hmmm... disagreeing with Cindy is not something I'm used to doing! :)

But I think there are many different types of colonial hydroids, so maybe mine are just the kind that retract. But they do suck down in their tubes fully at the slightest disturbance.
 
Mine must just be super stubborn cause they don't retract for anything. lol But, that is good to know. The site Melosu posted has some great pics.
