They're definitely dead. Those two calcareous algaes deposit calcium carbonate in their tissues and when they die, the calcium skeleton is left. It's a shame the condition they came in. I'd send a complaint/ask for a refund.

Never heard good things about them. I've never had a problem with my supplier. I can pm you the website if you want.
