I have a snail that was very active, crawling all over the place- on fake plants and such.

now he is hanging upside down and looks like he is out of his shell on one side (I can see inside).

Is this normal? Does he perhaps have air inside his shell thats not allowing him to go back in?

is it an apple/mystery snail?
i would try touching it. like on it's little trapdoor. if it pulls back in, then it's just hanging out bein cool. if there's no response, it's probably bedtime for bonzo. mine do that dormant thing off and on all the time, no biggie.
i don't think though that there's air in its shell keeping it from getting back in.
also, if they lose the trapdoor for good they're most likely dead.

Hes good, he dropped back to bottom now.

I gotta say - adding snails to my betta tank is AWESOME. They clean the **** out of it!

Srsly- I got a saltwater tank that is cycling right now, but when its done I'm going to FILL it with the things!
