Would a 50 watt heater be overkill for a 5 gallon shrimp breeder tank? I would get a 25watt but my lfs doesn't have any good ones.

No, if it has a thermostat on it and it works it'll be fine. I use 100w jager heaters in my 10g/5g fry tanks.

Ahh good thinkin about a thermostat.. ill have to double check on that

I know this is titled for heaters but I thought I would ask here. Would a fluval chi be an ok tank to breed shrimp in?

I don't have a heater in it. I kept a betta in it up until today. It's in the living room so it stays in the mid 70s. I actually just moved the betta to another tank and rescaped the chi with some plants and crystal red/black shrimp

Yeah they do well in unheated tanks also. I will post pics of my setup in the next day or so, it looks good

sweet cant wait.. I'm now debating if I even need to spend the cash on a heater.. I know right now I can probably get away with it, being in Tucson start of summer, but we keep our house a chill 72 degrees.. I guess I would need a heater as a what if kinda thing. I'm def gonna get the chi though, it just looks so cool and would be perfect in my entertainment center! I'm just glad I'm not like those people who want a 5 gallon tank and want a school of fish...
