has any of you folks ever placed a HOB filter on your sump to occasionally use for running carbon or polishing the water. just curious?

its more of a question out of curiosity then a solution that i am asking for. i had seen a picture of a sump somewhere (don't quite remember where) where i saw a HOB filter hanging on it and i was just wondering if anyone else was doing it.

I figure it'd be kinda loud since the average sump water level is half of the tank. Lots of splashing water.

If you ran out of space in your sump, its an option :)

yeah, i was thinking that it would be loud. i guess if one uses it only occasionally to run carbon or something, then the noise could be tolerated.

I use one on occasion to polish the water. When I use carbon, I just put it on the drain line. My sump is in a separate room so noise is not a real concern. You could fix this by extending the outlet on the filter to reach the water level.
