Hi i was thinking of setting up a quarantine tank. I purchased a 10 gallon for this purpose. I am assuming I should cycle this tank as well, so if I need it, it will be ready. The question I have is, once it is cycled, won't I have to keep fish in the tank to keep the cycle going? Any other advise about this type of tank?

what I do is keep extra media for the filter in my main tank filter and then after I use it I just chunk it and replace it

thats what i do. i have extra filters going on other tanks. when its time for qt of a new fish or a sick fish i move it over.

no you dont have to have the same thing. i run hobs and sponge filters on my tanks. when i am ready to set up the qt i move one of the hobs or sponges over.
