This has been an interesting build, I can't wait to see the finished project. So far, it looks like its going to be awesome.

Oh man, it looks awesome so far. I've been intrigued by these tanks for awhile, but I'm nowhere near ready to take the plunge. I'm psyched to see the end product. It's going to be niiiice.

Final hardscape still no water.

Next on the to do lists. Decide on ATO; positive pressure or aqualifter. Figure out CO2 injection. to start I will use the DIY method until I can aquire what i need for a paintball tank version. The problem is time in water for the co2 this tank is only about 8" tall so I worry that a pollen diffuser will just gas off so do I

A: Let the micro bubbles get sucked up by the HOB?
B: Put the diffuser inside the HOB chamber so the bubbles cascade over

I use a glass ceramic diffuser on my 5 gal... it is one of the u shaped glass ones from ADA and it only extends down into the tank about 5". My CO2 still stays around 30ppm with about 1bps injection.

GOTZ PLANTS!!

thank you fort for the fantastic DHG It will actually suite my "tall plants" requirement nicely!! Everythings showed up green and alive.

Also recvd my ebay HC so we will see how it works out. Everything is going to be started emersed to give the HC a chance to root.

.

Now I just need a fine leafed plant to splite the height difference between the hair grass and the HC... any thoughts?

And I need to find something with some reds in it.
Ill be doing the planting into the substrate this weekend.

lilaeopsis would meet that requirement.

Glad the DHG arrived in good shape!

Looking forward to seeing this grow out!

couldnt help my self so I planted tonight.

HC and DHG planted.

And the top down shot.

I worry about keeping the "hill" wet. I dont want to have to mist everyday... I was thinking of plugging in a aqualifter to suck water at the bottom and ciculate it up to the top to keep it moist.

Growth shot its been a week since i planted anything?

Ok so i just ordered some lilaeopsis Braziliensis "microsword" off of aquabid Ill cross my fingers. Also finally got all my parts on order for CO2 I am going to do a paintball set up for 3gallons it should last a while I will see what I can do to get the bps down as low as possible.

On a completely different note I am getting through my contoller build fantastically on my reef tank. I am using an Arduino to run the whole set up all I have left is to program in the LCD and the lights and then assemble into a decent looking package. Does anyone have any experience with arduinos?

I recieved the microsword... I see that this aquabid guy has an issue with duckweed which I hate. Which means I will be picking what i recieved apart to get what i need without the duckweed. I also got all of my CO2 stuff ill take some pics tonight.

So. I am now itching to put water in this thing... the HC looks like its grown out some and taken root. Any thouhghts on how I can check to see if its ready to be drowned?

Never done the emersed growth thing so not sure on that.

The microsword will be great to split the height between the HC and Hairgrass.

One word of caution mixing all 3 of these plants: They will all grow like crazy once established... so do weekly scaping to keep the lines clearly divided on where you want each... or before you know if you skip a few weekly sessions, it will all be growing together, and nearly impossible to sort out. Just my 2 cents...

Fill the tank level up and crank the co2. If you have a drop checker, make sure its nice and yellow. Your also going to want to make sure ferts are enough so estimative index is a good start.

If you don't crank the co2, a lot of the HC will die off and start to yellow. Expect it to take 2 - 3 weeks for the HC to adapt before you start to see some growth.

Each week, slowly dial the co2 down until you eventually reach normal levels, or whatever you desire.

Sounds like that might be the plan... IE was how I used to dose but I sold all my ferts when I got into saltwater. Any good sources now a days? And this is a pico so i only need small quantities

My ****, I just went and used the EI calculator and I'll be dosing 3ish drops a day... so I wouldl like to know if anyone would like to split an order from aquariumfertilizer.com OR if I could buy just some small amount say 1 cup of each? Anyone

I couldnt help my self so I filled the tank and cranked the co2. I am using a drop checker but it stayed very green/blue I dont know how long it takes to reach an equilibrium. After getting the water in though i am not impressed with my slope. however I have not planted the back area so we shall see.
I noticed when I was getting ready to fill it that the substrate was covered in a green algae.... i hope this doesnt proliferate.

Cant see much for the bubbles

I need to reposition my diffuser when I crank it up the bubbles pop at the surface and splash the light. Any thoughts?

1. Should I move it under the filter intake
2. in the filter
3. the far side of the tank away from the intake.
