Hi guys! I’m an active member on other fish forums and have been fish keeping for about 2 years. I have three lovely cycled tanks and have only had minimal problems in the past.

Today I was deep cleaning my 5gal because I wanted to arrange for more plants. Stocking of the tank is one male betta and a nerite snail. No other fish/pests have ever been in there. It’s been running about a year. Filtered, and well established.

A bit over a month ago I bought wood at a local LFS for my new 10gal. I had a few pieces left over and put one of them in the 5gal. Prior to this I boiled the wood for a good 45 mins, and soaked in a container for a few days.

Today I picked this piece of wood up to scrape off nerite eggs and saw THIS-

No idea what it is! Larvae ? The heck?? I posted this on a few other fish forums and no one seems to know what it is. I brought it here because... well I’m terrified! Its squishy and was stuck on the wood and EW! I have no idea if this could be harmful or what. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you so much!!

I can't recall what the name was but there is a caterpillar which can live under water, had gills until matured and then gets lungs I guess!
