what watt is highly reccomended for most corals?? i have a 50 gal. oceanic....with PC light already purchased

What are the dimensions of your tank? What corals do you plan on keeping?

its a tall 50 gal. i dont really know the dementions i can check if it is needed...but i am planning on keeping the hardier corals later on that is why I want a mh. also, maybe a few sponges as well.

In a 50g standard sized tank a 250MH should due just fine for you. That would give you 5wpg of MH lighting and if you accented with any actinics you'd be even higher than that. You may be able to get away with 175 if your tank were on the shallow side and a 400 is likely to be more light than you'd need.

HTH.

if I just plan on doing a FOWLR tank will i need MH lighting?

or can i get away with doing two 36" 5000K actinic lights?
