Why do mystery snails float for days and days

Yes they float for days and then they go back to being a snail

Perfectly normal. Especially as they get old. Check your water to be sure that everything is okay. High nitrates will cause them to close up. If that is all right then they are fine. When they die, they come out of their shell and just hang from it. They also smell really bad.
