I got a 55g tank off Craigslist today that came with a few fish, 2 lampeye tetras, 1silver dollar, and a pleco, since reading about how big they get I considered getting a rubber lip but I'm pretty sure this is a common and I want to re-home him. Help me out pleco experts!

I think you have a clown pleco.

It has stripes like one, that's why I was so confused it looks different then the plecos I usually see.

It looks just like ours. We have four. They really love/need wood. They stay small too. :)

I just read they they stay small, like 3.5 inches long... He almost looks at least 4 inches though so I'm not sure.

Looks like a common pleco that I stressed... Or washday color is your substrate? If its white then he may be trying to camouflage (keep that in mind)

As you can see he/she has lines on it. I just turned on the light. That kind of pleco almost seems to change colors.
If you can, can you get a pic of the stomach when it is on the wall? Just to be sure

I think it looks like a sailfin leopard pleco. A believe they are L-183s but the pictures you took are difficult to tell from because she/he is all stressed which is why there are those blotches on him

Not 183 that's a starlight lol

It is very possible it's stressed, it hung out in a bucket for a couple hours while I set the tank back up. The lines are not as apparent this morning

I feel bad for him, there is a little hole in one of his fins. And it's obvious his fins are not as extended as they should be. I'm gonna give him lots of lovin and get him healthy then decide what to do. They get to big for me to want him to be in my 55 but if I list him for rehoming on Craigslist I have the feeling he might not find a tank any bigger anyway. Off to test my waters parameters.

Well it's def not a starlight! I just had the wrong number. I just love them so much... It's to bad the quality isn't better... There is a vary good site with a good pleco database but can't remember it...
