Also, I thought some died in the way home from the lfs as these guys will play dead sometimes.

Yeah. A couple were laying upside down lifeless looking in the bag and I put them in the bucket to drip acclimate and as I went to scoop the couple I thought were dead out they suddenly started swimming with the rest. Super odd, and I've heard other people have similar experiences.
I do want to mention that I really stay on top of my water conditions and have always done 50% water changes on the tanks.(except the ones with shrimp)

Yeah, acclimate them well and you should have no problems. I bought 10 and all the original ten were still alive when I sold the whole tank 2 years later. They are not a super sensitive species.
