Took them all out today and but rock back there with the little black rack over it and some poly fill over it. I'm hoping this set up will make my water more clear and drop the nitrates more. Thanks Bribo

I'd take the rock out too, it'll trap detritus just like the bio balls. IMHO your best bet would be to either build or buy a media rack and use that. A good combo is floss/purigen/phosgaurd with the water flowing through the floss first. Poly fill from Walmart works great for floss, $10 will get you enough for a year + and you can just toss it during your weekly wc's and replace with a new handful.

IMHO with canisters in saltwater, you want as much movement in them as possible.
Big Reds layout is a great idea.

Okay sounds good BigRed! I know inTank sells one for like 45 and then I could add to the baskets then. I saw it and was hesitant on getting it.

So good news! Everything shipped for the media baskets and the actual media from Dr. Foster and Smith! Now I know I have to change my poly fill every week with water changes but how often to I have to change the purigen and chemi-pure elite?

I used to change mine out every 4 months or so. It says its good for 6 months.

+1. The purigen will also turn yellow when it needs to be recharged.

My water was alwasy crystal clear using that combo. Also the chemipure elite helps with the algae so never had much in the way of that issue in my biocube.
Great products, you will like using them.

Awesome! Yea my water has usually always been clear but my nitrates are keeping steady in the 10-20 range so I'm hoping this is better filtration

oh yeah...one more thing. When you do your water changes its a good idea to rinse the bags of media, if you dont the nitrates will build up on the bags of purigen and chemipure.

So question, I know that sps corals are meant for better lighting than the stock biocube but I've heard that there are some simple sps corals that don't require as much lighting? Some please enlighten me lol

I don't think I'd call any sps corals simple but montipora capornicis and montipora digitata may work with those lights.

Birdsnest IMO are pretty high light corals. Especially if you want them to have good color. And acros are acros. Some do need less light than others but they're all pretty high light. And they're a pain in the butt
