New betta fish owner

Hi guys, I'm dmglus and I've just rescued a little betta fish from an unheated, unfiltered, one gallon tank. I'm in the process of getting him a more suitable environment. I'm hoping to get some advice and learn more about these wonderful fishes and the people who care for them.

It's a tetra three gallon cube fish aquarium that I've added sponge to the filter and silk plants to.
