Thank you in advance for reading and any advice or knowledge you offer.

I got a new Betta male 5 days ago (Aug 30th). I had my last betta from 2004-2007. After I got my new one home and settled in, I noticed a dark spot on his lower body. I don't know why I didn't see it in the store. But the bag they put him had print all over it so it wasn't easy to see him clearly until he was in the bowl. From what I can see, it seems to fit the bill of a few different things I read about online on many different sites about betta diseases and I just have no clue what it is and what I should be doing to treat it.

He seems healthy in every other aspect. He is active, eats well, flares fins and I have not noticed color changes. I've been keeping a close watch because the spot concerns me. At first I thought it was color impurity, but noticed it protrudes.

I'm getting more worried because the spot seems to be getting bigger and changing. It is a bump that can be seen on both sides on the bottom lower half. It is on the body and dark on the fins. When I got him one side had a bit of white in the center, the other side was all dark. But today I see white on both sides of the body.

The gravel, bowl and decor were rinsed before placing the fish in. I cycled a 1 gallon glass bowl with tap water for 3 days. (our tap water isn't hard, we've had many fish for many years survive well.) The thermometer reads 75%. I let him float in the bowl in the store container for a little over 2 hours before gently moving him with a fish net.

I did the first water change yesterday (75% of the water). I've been feeding him Aqueon brand Color enhancing Betta Food. I still need more supplies so I don't know the levels in the water right now.

If you can help me figure out if it is a fungus or anything else, I'd be in your debt. I want to medicate him if that is what he needs!

Many thanks in advance,
Andrea
