After a long time away I'm back and redid my 90 gal! It houses my Pleco from my old Mbuna tank, a 4" Tiger Oscar and a 3" Blue Acara

Holy smokes that one hell of an Oscar. I'll pm you my mailing address, you can Google winter live shipping. I need him. That Acara ain't to shabby either..

Thank you both for the kind words :) I can't wait to watch them both grow and they no doubt have the room to do so here!

Thank you! I think he should be happy with his buddy. They give playful chase every now and then but they get along well. Glad the Acara has a little attitude because once my O grows I think he'll need it!

So, I know my water temp is on the higher side for the O but he seems to be doing well. It's between 80 and 82. All my stock seems active and feeds well. I feed the O 3 times a day about 6 to 8 medium Hikari cichlid gold pellets. NLS for the acara although he seems to eat whatever the O spits out his gills, haha. I am heavy on filtration for about 925gph. Question being, do you think for now, while they are 4" fish prospectively, that I could get away with pwc every 2 weeks? Say 30%? Of coarse I'll test the water anyways this weekend.....tank is fully cycled :)

Nope. Don't slack man.. get in the habit of a weekly 50 and once that fat boy hits 7" you'll be at 2 a week.

I'm glad I asked!!!! I didn't even do that when it was a well stocked Mbuna tank. I know the Oscar is a bit more temperamental to water parameters though......right?

Yes, they are prone to major issues when parameters slip. He'll grow fast and healthy with the clean water. It'd be a shame to rob him of his potential. I'll take him at any point if he proves to much;)

Haha! I got a python that runs right to my laundry sink in the basement. Water changes should be easy. I'd hate to rob him of his potential!!!!

I agree with brookster 100%

Oscars are messy! I had an oscar and 2 convicts and man was that a mess. 2x a week for sure when they get a bit bigger

Ok, sounds like that's the game plan then. I forgot just how great the people were here on this forum. I joined another forum as I got back into this geared towards keeping monster and it seems so dead. Glad I came back to the place where I learned everything I know!

Here are the photos I promised!

Well glad to see my tank has maintained its cycle through the move. 40ppm of nitrate....I was planning on doing a 50% pwc Saturday. Should I do it sooner?
