Opinions on doing discus

Ok so i have a 180g tank it's got cichlids had them for 5 years and I'm ready for a change. My tanks kinda blah! So I'm thinking of starting over. I have a sump under the tank full of bioballs. Anyways I was thinking pool filter sand for my substrate since I have some brownish gravel now. And painting the background , either black or blue? Plus an rodi unit as I hear discus want/need rodi rather than tap. Here's a pic of my current setup. I'd love some opinions on doing a discus tank
