I had a twenty gallon and I painted it black and my water started to get murky a week later and all of my neon tetras died.:(

First coat on. Time for a sit outside in this lovely weather while it dries

Second coat on already. I didn't think it would go this quick. I do have all the windows open in my sun room, amd I'm getting a nice cross breeze in here.

Four coats on and done. I'm really happy with the way it turned out. My apologies for the major glare in the pic from the front. It looks better in person. Maybe I'll post a better pic of it when it gets dark out so there won't be such a bad glare.

There is one thing I noticed about this. The back now reflects everything in a big way. Anyone with a black painted background post pics and let me know if it's better when the water and fish are in the tank. I used a flat black paint.

I get no reflection in my black painted tanks. I never paid any attention when the tank was empty.

No it will be fine when you fill it. Nice job. Just before you fill it, get a torch or lamp and light it inside the tank. Look at it from the back, you will then see it you missed any bits. Sometimes you get small pin size holes you may have missed......

Thanks, I did a thorough inspection with it in front of an open window in my sun room and found no pinholes.

Here's a pic of the tank with the hood light on

Looks great. Just remember, because the background is black, it absorbs more light, so the tank may not look as bright as before. It will however make all the colours pop, which is a nice compensation...lol
