So I have a 35 gallon tank with an eheim 2213 ( or 250) canister, ac 30, and an undergravel filtr powered by a maxi-jet 900. My water levels are 0 ammo, 0 trites, 15 trates, ph is 7. My current stock is:
6 gold barbs
5 sturbai Cory
2 breeding kribs
1 bnp.

So all my fish except for my gold barbs seems to sit on the bottom behind all of my rocks or in them. My gold barbs just sit in a school. My pleco does his normal thing though. I saw my female today for the first time in awhile and the male was sitting there nipping at her. I don't know if it was them just courting but that's not the issue. Along with that stock was one baby krib in a hatchery and two other littler kribs in another hatchery. The two baby kribs looked like their fins were slowly rotting away but I didn't see any fungess or anything so I asked my one lfs what he thought was going on. Nothing else in the tank shows any signs or fungus or anything wrong with them. So he said it sounded like the two baby's were just nipping at each other. They both passed sad to say but there is still 18 more, not in this tank! Now does it sound like something is wrong with my fish I don't see any fungus or anything but I have salt that I can use to put in just to be safe but would my stock be okay with salt. Is 1 tablespoon or 5 gallons sound good. If it is ich, would that racial of salt fight the ich also?

Anyways thank you all for your help.

First of all, how long have you had your fish? In my experience it can take a while for fish to become comfortable with their new surroundings..sometimes up to 2 weeks, even for schools.
Secondly, barbs are nippers, but even my black neons would work out pecking orders occasionally. I don't know anything about kribs, but possibly a bad stock?
As far as the salt, IMO your cories couldn't tolerate the full recommended dose. Mine did fine with half the dose. Ich looks like grains of salt on their fins or bodies. Heat (88 F) and some salt will cure it. Check out your guys closely and see if you notice any spots. In the meantime a significant pwc couldn't hurt. Keep us posted:).

Nutrafin liquid test kit. I've had all my fish except for the two new cories for almost a year now so 9 months but in this tank for 6 months. I don't see any ich on the fish and they are not flashing as if they had ich. I know my two Baby kribs died and their fins had nips on them but Idk. Anyways I put some photos on here do they look healthy I'm not sure about momma krib but if she was sick wouldn't her belly colour go down? Sorry about the floating plant. My male kribs digs at night a lot.

I've thought about that before. Only one of my lfs carry it but I have token samples into them and have got the same results as when I left home.

Do the fish look healthy? Especially the female krib? When I look straight at her the look about the same distance on each side but for some reason the one eye seems weird but I don't know

From what I know, the nutrafin liquid kit should be fine. I don't think you need to invest in another kit.

Oops water change is 20% twice a week. And my bnp has a shorter dorsal fin because of my male krib.

Sorry to say your not doomed but in my opinion and I have used UGFs before, you should dismantle the UGF since it will lead to diatome algae and higher nitrates even if you gravel vac often. It's hard to remve 100% of the debris under the gravel plate.

I agree 1000% im just slowly working at it. I don't wanna remove everything from my tank to get the ugf out so I might just remove my powerhead. Take the stack out. Put a flat stone over the part where the tube goes up and fill it with gravel. Also bits of gravel get sucked up into my tube and it really annoys me. Would the eheim 2213 and ac30 be enough by itself for filtration?

I have more pictures of my female krib does anything look wrong. The eyes seems to be sitting out a from her head a bit. But I can't remember if it's just the way she is or not.
Any opinions?

Anybody? How does she look I'm so mad at myself. I just wish I could tell on my own but it's been so long ankle she has come out.

Hmmm... its a little hard for me to say for sure, but it does maybe seem like her eyes a little bit poppy. Honestly, I don't know if I should say its just a random abnormality or if its soemthing wrong.

Well I'm going to say something is wrong. Main reason for this is because at feeding time she seems to miss the food sometimes but will still get some so she misses like every other flake or so that she goes for. Also one of my friends were over yesterday and I asked him if it seemed like the eyes were sticking out at all. He said he could tell that they were stocking out more then all the other times he was here. I did a 50% pwc today and I'm debating on whether or not I should put in some salt. Would it help? Most likely duh. I ha e put salt in before at 1 tablespoon per 5 gallons. But someone mentioned before that their cories couldn't handle it so idk. Whats your opinion?

Sometimes cories do ok with salt, somtimes not. The longer I look at it, the more I think they do a bit poppy. Salt is supposed to help equalize the pressurein the eye, so in this case I say go for it. I suggest starting out half strength (1 tbp per 10g) on the salt and seeing how the cories react though.

Alright will do righ after I get out of bed. It's so hard though lol. I only see my male right now? Is there a good chance of recovery? Also when I do a water change I put in the same amount of salt that I took out right?

Oh ya I need to dissolve the salt before I add it to the tank correct?

Hello, I've had ugf before and loved them. I'm actually looking for some more to buy! But I know there are mixed opinions on them.

I might have misunderstood, but it sounds like you were planning to not use the ufg, but leave the plates in? I have heard stories of toxins building up under unused plates and killing the fish. I don't want that to happen to you!

Wow I never thought of that before but yes that was the plan. I should have seen that coming to though... The water would just be sitting down there. Thank you so much. But I woke up to a bad thing...first it looked like she was stuck in her nest. Just lying on her side. So I removed the rocks (seeing as there is going to be no breeding) to get her out. When I did that she just swam around in circle very slowly on her side... So I netted her and put her into a hatchery. My qt tank is currently being used as a grow out tank. What would you guys advise doing?

So she past yesterday. I was very disappointed, will I need a new male? I put the other female from the 110 gallon in with him. she was just being chased from
the pair in their anyways. So will my male spawn with the new female? Or since he had a mate he only wants her?
