Planning to breed.....

Hi,
I am kind of new to the fish thing. I would like to breed some fish. I just don't know if I have male or female fish and how to get just male or just female. Do I ask the people at petco to put a boy and girl in the bag for me. I know what to do for guppies cause they come make or female. I just want I breed more than guppies. Please help thanks!

What size tank do you have? I would not trust the PETSMART or Petco people. If you want live bearers then the males have a sword like anal fin and females have a fanned out one.

I suggest starting with platies,mollies,guppies,and swordtails before moving on to egglayers.For livebearers,you should have a 1M:3F ratio

I have a 55 gallon and a little like 2.5 gallon.

I'd put the fry in the 2.5 as a grow out if it is empty and breed in the 55.Or you can leave fry in the tank if it is heavily planted.

I suggest doing more research on identifying, sexing, and basic care before you jump into breeding. It takes some knowledge, dedication, and equipment to do well.
