I'm in the process of setting up a new 75G reef. Anyone have either good or bad experiences with plenums? A couple of sites such as garf.org and thereefweb.com endorse them as the fool proof way to go. I don't think anythings foolproof, but most people don't seem to have them. I'm interested in your experiences. Thanks.

NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Not good, do a DSB instead, with the plenum you have the chance of nitrates building up dew to "Dead space" which may trap waste.

About 4" of Aragonite should do you just fine, just make sure to let the thing cycle before adding anythinng.

Hope that helps

I think either one will work if set up properly. Set up properly seems to be the key to this hobby. I opted for the DSB in all my tanks and have had good results with it so far. I have never set up a tank with a plenum so I have no experience with them.
