Hey y'all is it safe to take drift wood from the river near my house it's a fast moving river but has some really nice peices in it.

I did mine geez 10 years ago probably now. I bleached it before I put it in then had to wait like a month or something for the bleach to gas out. Do a Internet search for driftwood bleach.

I also boiled smaller pieces for 30mins or so and had no issues.

Yes it's safe just boil it well, there's no reason to risk anything bleaching it.

A trash can works for larger pieces just dump the boiling water into it

Using Local Driftwood

Hello Y...

I use local pieces in my tanks. I rinse it well with the pressure nozzle on the garden hose and leave it out in the sun to dry for a day or two and into the tank. I pick up some rocks too. I usually need something heavy to weigh down the piece.

As long as there aren't laws against doing this, I'd say, have fun.
