I'd avoid play sand...though there are some that have had success with pool filter sand...but the silicates are the issue at hand. A good aggregate sand is best choice.

Honestly, I no longer believe that silicates will leach out of silica based sand. No more than silica leaching out of your tank glass that is. I have seen folks use silica sand in salt tanks and not have problems.
