Skimmerless sump question

I'm still saving up for an in-sump protein skimmer, but have an existing HOB model on my old tank. Here's a link to my build thread to bring ya up to speed.

Are there any issues with using a hob skimmer on the display tank while also using the overflow/return/sump setup?

Noob mistake, I know, my impatience got the better of me.
