So my girlfriend gave me her betta fish to take care of

My girlfriend gave me her betta fish to take care of for a few weeks until she comes back home for the holidays, because she brought it home for thanksgiving and didnt want to subject the fish to more 3 hour car trips than necessary.

She just gave me the fish in a tupperware thing. I'm sure it'll be fine in there, but I was wondering if I could perhaps put this betta in with my other fish. I know they fight with certain types of fish, but others they're ok with.

So I have 4 red wag platys, 2 neon tetras and 1 feeder guppy in my 10 gallon tank. The tank is well established, and has been so since about July. Does anybody think the betta will get along with my other fish? Also, will the betta eat the regular tropical fish food?

Guppys and bettas generally do not mix well. I would leave the betta by itself.

If you can put it in a new 5 gal pail with an airstone and some decorations I'm sure it will be happier but if not, I agree leave the betta by itself. The guppy and betta will nip at each other.

IME, it's possible.
if it doesn't work, take the beta back out.
