In the back corner of my 29 gallon I have a nice grove if these coming in finally:) the problem is they are growing very tall and are floating on the surface. Is it possible to cut them shorter and replant the trimmings?

Vals propagate via runners. They shoot out runners that in turn grow new leaves/stems. Cutting them in half and replanting won't work. You can cut the runner free and replant the new growth though.
