I am starting a new 60 gallon tank and have a few questions. I plan on using live plants and a sand substrate. I will cycle it for 30 days before I add my first fish.

1. I am using driftwood I pulled from my local river. I have power washed it and boiled it for two hours. However some pieces still have the bark on them, is that okay, or should I remove it?

2. I was thinking about using some local aquatic plants that were growing in the river along with some moss that was growing on the rocks under the water. Any cons to this? Any recommendations on prepping them before I put them into my tank.

3. As I mentioned I am using a sand substrate 100 lbs of pfs. Should I use a plant friendly substrate under the sand to promote plant growth? Any recommendations?

Thanks

May as well go full native tank, use whatever you can source from the river.. sand too! Where do you live?
