Time to remove the daddy?

My dwarf gourami's spawned on Tuesday, fry hatched yesterday and today they are starting to move about. At the moment the male is still collecting them and putting them back at the top, but they just keep on slipping past him. How will I know when to move him out? I'd like to do it before it's too late and he starts to eat them.
Is there any benefit to them keeping him in at the moment?
