Hi all,

I am going to try to buy live rock and live sand from an established tank rather than new from a store. First of all, is this a good idea? Second, how should I transport the LR and LS? The trip would be about 1-2hr driving.

Thanks!

You could put the rock/sand in a bucket with a little water and then put a wet towel on top. I have trasnported LR this way with no problem. If there are corals/life on the rock, you could transport it submerged in water via rubbermaid tubs but damp in a bucket should work for the LR by itself.

Quicker you can get it in your tank the better of course.

You can transport the LR in a cooler or large tub, water is not needed, towels or wet news paper is fine. Like ellisz say if there are corals on the LR then you should have them under water.
How old is the LS, if it a couple years old I would pass on the LS. Or only take the first 1-2". Old LS if its a deep SB will have levels that can be nasty.
