I have a 55 gal tank with 20 gal sump and I'm running a 110 reef octopus protein skimmer. What would be a good uvs? Would it be in sump, hob? Or should I not get one at all. Is a uvs only good for ridding algae? Any pros or cons? Thanks!

UV sterilizers generally aren't needed. Is there a particular reason you are wanting one?

They will only kill parasites and algae spores that go through the lighted chamber. I used one for the first 8 yrs I had a reef but then decided it really was not essential.

There was no particular reason. Just wondering if it would be a good addition.

not needed, they do very little, if you really want one your need to spend $3-400 to get a good one, the off the shelf 8, 10 20 watts ones are just a waste of mony and electric, you need 50- watt or higher to get any benefit, use the money and buy salt and do more water changes, that will always give you benefits.
