I got a star fish for my reef tank a last week. (Photo Attached). Went to another pet store today, and they say it may be one of the toxic variety. What do you think?

I can't ID it, but it looks VERY suspicious. I've not seen one of those advertised on any aquaria website, and I've looked at all that I can find. I would be very leary and suspicious, if I were you.

Most stars of that shape are coral eaters and/or coraline eaters.. not reef safe... But if you are going to have a fish only setup, you shouldn't have to worry about it.

It is a bahaman sea star (Oreaster reticulatus) and much like the choc. star when it comes to reef setting, not desirable. They are very carnivorous and should not be trusted.

Cheers
Steve
