You shake it like a polaroid picture prior to testing?

27 fish in a 55g.
4 anubias with low light.
Aqua clear 110 with 'bio chem sorb'
Nitrate readings of 1-2 (with an API test kit).
And no mention of water changes on this 4 year old tank.

To be honest something seems wrong here to me?
Do you do large water changes ?
1-2 nitrate with an API test kit huh?
Are your reagents up to date?
Are you testing correctly?
I told Caleb something is cooking in his low nitrate tank also!

Just my opinion from the info I am given.

25% changes weekly, doing 25% daily right now due to im treating for a possible parasite, ritual water changes, ritual monthly replacements of my bio Chem bag, using prime during every treatment, actually 25 fish now cause of the 2 that passed, feed blanched zucchini every 2 weeks, it was 1 Anubias i cut into 2, i shake lightly for 5-10 seconds when testing And wait 5 minutes before i check the reading.

My tank also has many many many more plants than this though. I can see why mine would have a deficiency. Not this though.

Wait you shake the nitrate test for 10 seconds??

If so that's it! Nitrate test on the API kit you are supposed to shake the heck out of it for 1 minute.

Caleb

My plants aren't dying, they grow like wild fire to the point that i had to cut them in half so they weren't all crowded, if it was a deficiency they wouldn't grow they would die

It says it in the instruction book.

Nitrate you add 10 drops of solution 1. Swirl for a few seconds, then add 10 drops of solution 2. Then shake the living heck out of it for 1 minute.

I just shook my arm off waiting for 5 min right now its still the same color yellow

You need to shake the living daylights out of reagent bottle #2 before you even add the 10 drops as it settles out.
If much of the solution has been used already without ever shaking then the reagent solution itself will be skewed now IMO....

I always shake the bottles before test so the same yellow
