So wouldn't you know it, I have 3 tanks with Angel fry and the breeders and the sick fish I am trying to cure and some test Guppies ( that are really populating their tank) and I am having a power outage come midnight tomorrow nite. Supposed to be for maintainence and only for 2 hours but what if it takes longer? I have a 10 gal with almost 300 babies in it!!! How can they last if the power's off for more than 2 hours? And how will I know if i fall asleep since it is in the middle of the night after all. My solution: I purchased a backup airpump that goes on when the power goes off. By using a number of check valves and Ts, I spliced this pump into the main line so that when the power goes off, all the tanks will have some air going through the sponge filters so all SHOULD be okay. When the power goes back on, the check valves should keep the air from escaping through the back up pump. It might look like spagetti but it worked when I tested it :D
Question: Are YOU prepared if the power goes out?

I plan on it. Looking into a couple of 6 volt golf cart batteries and an inverter/charger. Only my blower will be plugged into it. That'll give me a couple of days back up. That's why I've been moving all my tanks into one room so they'll be connected to air system.

I also plan on applying 1/2" blue styrofoam to the backs and sides of all my tank to keep in as much of the warmth as possible. When the power goes out I will placing a sheet on the front as well.

Well good for the 2 of you for at least thinking about it. :) Here in FL, we have to think about hurricanes for about 5 months of the year so most big wholesale houses and breeding houses have those back up generators "Just in case". Because of this, we always designed systems with backups built in so if one failed the other would keep things stable. (At least that was the plan ;) )

I was more annoyed at the whole thing when I heard it and then got even more POed when I saw that it was costing me another $35.00 for the pumps but then I thought to myself " Is $35.00 a good investment to save potentially $500.00 worth of fish?" You can bet your last dollar that I slept like a baby last night knowing that I have the ability now to save them should things go bad instead of wishing I had spent that $35.00. (I'll be up tonight checking on them tho, just to make sure :D )

Thankfully, the power came back on only it wasn't in 2 hours as projected by the power company, it was 4 1/2 hours later!!!! Now I'm really glad I had that backup ;) All the sponge filters had air going through them the whole time. I'm not expecting any die off of BB.
(So I don;t know if I slept easy or I slept from exhaustion LOL )

I just pulled eggs from my pair of blue zebras. I have been trying to let them raise them but after 4 attempts they have eaten them. So i pulled them and put in a ten gallon with meth blue and bubbler. So we shall see. I hope this also speeds up the egg process because they are laying once a month almost exactly the same day.

What temp are you keeping the eggs and the parents?

I know on my other pairs pulling the eggs helps making them spawn more frequent but i wanted to have a pair raise their own babies since they are in their own 20g planted tank.

Yeah, I was expecting the temp to be a little lower. You may want to see if raising the temp up to 82 will get them going faster. The eggs can be at 78-80 so that they take about 3 days to hatch. A slower hatching time is actually better for the embryos than a faster time in hotter water. Other than that, they will just have their schedule. Maybe it's the new way for a new color of Angels? So many of them are breaking all the old rules these days ;)

I can ask the breeder i got them from if his are that way. I got a variety of his blue morphs when he put them on sale and they are soon gonna be pre breeder size. Im trying to start my own variety of blue gold marble morphs. Its fun raising the dime sized babies up to breeders.

If these are young fish, that may explain it. They get more frequent as they mature. Never hurts to ask tho ;) My Buddie's 1/2 blacks don;t spawn as often as his other fish and they are being kept in the same system with the same situations so you can never rule out it just being the fish :banghead: ;)

I got them the weekend of july 4th from lee gordon. They were quarter size and now they are young adults. I put them in their own tank once i saw them trying to clean in my 29g and next day they layed. Im hoping to be raising babies still next time they lay to try to get them to raise them themselves.

Finally got the Koi pair moved as I saw them cleaning again, and I finally had a day off.

There are 5 cories and 2 or 3 Otos, they move around a lot and hide so not too positive.

There are 2 flat-ish surfaces...one on an angled stone, and another a smoother slab of petrified wood stone, also angled against the back glass. I plan to get a ceramic tile or two probably Thursday. The 3"-6" wide and 12" long ones.

37G tank, 110 Fluval filter, a small in tank filter for a small tank, I think it is a Whisper 2-10G.

OMG, I just checked the temp and it is only 70F - I am looking for another heater to drop in there now!

It was set for 80F but I guess it isn't up to the job any more. Will have to get a new one tomorrow.

There are a few stones and about a .5" of sand just to cover the reflective bottom.

I plan to move the Cories and the Otos, oh and I forgot to mention there are also 2 kuhlis. In the next week or so. I am guessing they will eat their eggs AGAIN if they even lay in this chilly water. Then next time maybe all will be peaceful enough for them for a good batch.

There is an LED light, Aqueon 30" with moonlights on the tank also.
