Got a whole boatload of plants in the mail for my birthday! Also, the smaller pieces of DW were able to be waterlogged overnight, so they're holding down my Taiwan moss.

Also got some of my inhabitants in there. A half dozen RCS and then my Orchid Endler's!

Happy Birthday!!!
That tank looks so different (and nicer) than it did just a week ago. That black sand is so dark and uniform.
You can snip off the algae covered leaves on the star repens if you want. They can be planted closer for a more "instant carpet" effect. Leave the ones already planted where they are. Just saying for any new ones.
When will you be getting the Rotala and other plants?

I don't mind the algae for now. My RCS are enjoying the feast!

More plants will be coming over the next week, and the manzanita branch centerpiece will be here soon, too.

I figured I would leave a few gaps in the middle for now; I would like to let it progress for a while without intervention.

So, now, time to start researching a DIY CO2 system... ???

What a change from those first pictures! How Beautiful!

I am feeling so inspired to do mine now! :fish1:

Thank you for the kind words! I, too, was inspired by folks in the planted section. I reached out to them for advice, ordered plants through members here and supplies through Amazon.com, and started working.

I'm not done yet, and have no doubt it will be an ongoing project, but I love the difference so far.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! Your RCS visible in pic is HUGE! Tank is really coming together well. :flowers:

One thing about this hobby. There is never a finish line (nothing short of taking your tank down). It's always growing and changing! That's what makes it so interesting and fun!

Happy Birthday! I must have missed that part! Sorry! :3

So, had a slight nitrIte spike (not sure why). Did several back-to-back PWCs and got it back down to 0ppm. Ammonia stayed at 0ppm and nitrAtes are sitting around 5ppm.

Also, one of my RCS molted!! Still have the same number, so that's a win, I guess?

Got another set of plants in and will be setting them up in the tank tomorrow! And I'm still waiting on that last piece of manzanita...

Got my latest shipment(s) of plants in the tank. Also was able to find another cory to join the flock.

Soaking manzanita in hot water! They're gorgeous!!!

And, like I mentioned, the CO2 system is on the way:
- Aquatek Regulator, dual gauge, solenoid and needle valve
- Aquatek bubble counter with check valve
- Aquatek CO2 tubing
- Fluval CO2 indicator kit

Going with a 5# tank, and will be posting pics as we get further along!

Night shot FTW!!!

Absolutely. Sweet manzanita btw. And a lot of it. Any idea how you will be setting it up?

Hoping it will be a "tree roots" style on the left side of the tank with those 4 pieces being turned into one large piece.

That's the plan, anyways! The manzanita is very light and not at all waterlogged, so it may be a week or so of soaking...

Wow, your tank is looking great :) I love the manzanita design and can't wait to see it all put up!

To an earlier convo in the thread though: I'm on the opposite side of Florida, but we too have the aquifer hard water issue. Plus the stupid city just redid the whole water system, one million dollars btw to do it, but didn't replace any of the 100 year old pipes in the ground. Genius right?

Looking forward to seeing how that CO2 system works out for you. :) Here's hoping for a bonus this year to get mine set up.

Got the manzanita mostly water logged and got the plants pretty much where I want 'em.

Also, I found out that I am highly allergic to pretty much every supplement used in the tank for the micros and macros for the plants. There's a bunch of benedryl and a sleepy redhead involved. So, shoulder-length gloves it is...
