Do a PWC, get those nitrites out of the tank ASAP.

Sloughing is something leathers do on occasion where they shed a layer of skin to grow bigger, but like I said it's still kinda new. I don't think the cleaners are causing a problem though

I did a pwc a few days ago. I have a feeling the water i am buying is still a problem so I shall be going elsewhere as soon as I am able to

I have had phosphates for months since I started with regular tap water. i also tried GFO for months to no avail. I have been having luck though as the more pwc's you do with ro/di water the more phosphates will go down. I think it actually leeches into the rocks. lol

I started in February with 5ppm phos and now have .50. Long trip but it's getting there.

I've debated getting a cheap little fishies phosban reactor but just haven't gotten to it yet. The GFO has to tumble in the water by the way, so in a filter it doesnt really get a chance to do that.

hope that helped some. :)

What us gfo? Sorry, still trying to get used to the short names etc

It's the chemical that you can use to get your phosphates down. if you bought some removal stuff it's probably gfo or something similiar. I put mine in a filter baggie and was keeping it in my hob filter and now I have it in my canister filter.

Oh right, duh I feel so dumb when talking about marine tanks lol. Yeah I have the little white balls in a media bag. It is currently in my trickle filter. Mine is phosphate remover from 'marine' I have been told rowphos is better is that right?

Is phosphate dangerous for fish and coral? I may have to wait a couple of weeks before I can get some rowaphos

Phosphate will cause your calcium to not properly be useable if I read my research right. I have been growing corals even at 1ppm so I havent noticed any issues, but who knows my corals could be doing alot better.

You aren't in nearly as bad shape as I was, I think it will be fine until you can try some rowaphos. Like I said though, it has to tumble lightly in the water. Where are you planning on putting it? Do you have a sump or mechanical filter?

I have a drip filter. My tank is a reefmax. The water treatment centre with full marine filtration consists of a biological trickling filter with Bio Filter Baskets and an efficient protein skimmer with comb filter. Dense combs protecting the intake guarantee the safety of fish and other animals.

The bio filtration baskets are filled with bioballs and the protein skimmer is equipped with an efficiency regulation system, in form of a control, that allows you to increase or decrease the speed of generating foam. It is also equipped with a capacious container that requires emptying no more that once every few days.

How do I get it to tumble into the water? I'm not sure how to get it to do that.

I used the low flow on my hob filter. they also make cheap reactors for rowaphos material. But that's if you really have an issue. Your levels are on the higher side but not, imo, hurting anything yet. i have recently gotten rid of the GFO in my filter and will do pwc's to slowly get rid of the phos.

If your corals are suffering from lack of calcium then you might have issues. Not sure I'm explaining it well, LOL, hopefully someone will correct or make more concise what I'm trying to say. :-D

Hey guys. I have upgraded my tank now to a betta 680.
