i have a 55 gallon going and i am ready to finally put some life in it. i got this tank for free. and i am planning about this time next year upgrading to a 90 or bigger.
i am more interested in new world species. i did oscars a long time ago and though i love them and would like to have them again. but i want something different. i would like a pair and something that can take care of the eggs if i don't want a brood unless i can just do it without the fish learning to hate me.
i would like to get a pair (only one) of green terrors, jack dempseys, or texas cichlids with a catfish or something. i know they will outgrow the tank but how long til that happens or how long before they get to close quarters and need the room. i am giving myself about a year to get a bigger tank going but as long as things keep going well for me i can do it by christmas.
i do also like firemouths and they don't get as big and can/might be more passive. but from my info gathering they like the bottom and i don't know how well that would work with other bottom dwellers.
i do know that my tank isn't too ideal for what i want to keep in the long run but i could use some light shed on my idea.
