I think so, but its really personal preference. I have the same tank and like to hide the overflow with LR.

Hydor internal nano skimmer really nice an I got it for $70 on amazon
The OP is asking for a skimmer for a 57 rimless plus sump and you are suggesting a skimmer that's rated for a 35 gallon tank?
We know, being in the hobby for more than a week, that skimmers are loosely rated, and you should pick a skimmer rated for 1.5 to 2 times your total system volume, so that being said, I don't think a skimmer rated for an approximate 20 gallon tank is going to do the trick.

It was a suggestion, they make bigger models in the hydpr skimmers

Ok I've been lazy and haven't broken down my old tank yet so it has about 8 inches of standing water. Last night I was looking for any snails that were left behind and noticed thousands of copepods in the water. I'd like to transfer some but don't want to add the nasty old water to the new tank. Any suggestions on how I could filter them from the water? I was thinking a sock and panty hose maybe

Do you have any cheato? Maybe throw a few pieces in there

I'll try cheato, I put some filter media in there last night to see if they would go to it... but I'm at work so I can't check it. They're so tiny it's hard to tell if they're on it. I used to never see any besides in my fuge, and now there are so many in the display
my scooter blenny should be fat

Do you have a little shrimp net? They are perfect for catching those guys. You can just run it along the sand bed and get a good amount of them I'd bet.
