Air bubbles

No. They will produce bubbles at the surface thus getting splash on your hood/ lights. Overtime you will get a build up and your sg will go down. It is just recommend that you have a decent amount of water movement via a powerhead.

Water movement and a protein skimmer should be all the aeration you need. Many stores will use air stones in the sales tanks for all their fish, but I don't know of anyone who has an air stone in their display tank.

i have 2 airstones in my tank. But i dont have it all crazy its just a little steam of bubbles. I also have a small 29 gallon tank. My fish love the bubbles. My german blue ram sit under it trying to eat the bubbles. lol

@Firebird This is for a SW tank, FW tanks usually have an airstone or wand, etc.

They are generally not used in SW for the reasons stated.

I agree you dont want a airstone in your SW tank. You`ll have some unsightly salt creep around your lights and top of the tank.
