They can be difficult, I wouldn't recommend one as a first fish

If you took it out when it got big....and they arent particularly easy either.....what about some sort of goby/blenny (but NOT a mandarin)

Plancton and small crustaceans So small shrimps would be grand for it as well as baby moules.
