20% water change done on day 33 due to ammonia just over 0.25

I have had a constant ammonia reading of just under 0.25 ( about 0.15) since the water change.
nitrites 0
Nitrates 20ppm
I have asked my lfs if they sell
Bactria filter media from there existing tank and all I get is a frown and a disgusted NO
Is this stuff like rocking horse muck and not available anywhere
I live in Nottinghamshire uk
Does anyone know where I can get some from?

What do you use for dechlorinating your water? I can tell you that Prime will bind ammo that is safer for fish (bacteria can use it), but still shows up in the API liquid test so you may be getting a false positive. Just remember when doing a 20% PWC, you only remove 20% of the ammo, so I'd suggest 50% PWC to help keep it down.

If you haven't seen it, here's a link on cycling with fish.

I just learned about cycling but I already have fish. What now?!

Also, check your tap water for ammonia as well. The .25 may actually be coming from your pwc.
