What is the best heater wattage for a 55 gallon tank? I will be buying a Visi-Therm brand from Big Al's (same thing I just ordered for my 20g, just bigger). I don't want to underdo it or overdo it. Thanks.

Also what is a good filter that you could suggest? I want something that is good quality but I don't want to spend tons of money on it either. Thanks.

Either two 100 watt heaters or one 200 watt heater should do it. Some people like to put two of the smaller heaters in case a failure should occur full-on or full-off, the fish would neither be cooked or frozen. I have a 200 watt heater in my 55 and it works adequately.

I would recomment 2 150 watts heaters. I generally go by 5 watts per gallon. A little extra will come in handy if you ever have to bumb the temps up.
