OMG! Need help with my Zebra Nerite Snail

Just took a look into my tank and this is what I found.



I think Gary is broken. It still moving eating from the glass but the shell is detaching. Is it going to die? My niece that lives with me is the one who named it and every morning checks if both snails are alive.

Poor gary I haven't seen this before in my snail's, but if he's moving about and eating i would just keep an eye on him and hopefully he'll be fine. Sorry i can't be much help

If there isn't enough calcium in the water the shell can begin to deteriorate. Your Kh should be at least a 4 when you have snails in the tank.

It looks like he is back to normal. The thing is it wasn't the shell. The soft body part was partially detached.


he is not moving now but he lazy so I will keep a eye on him.

He came from the shipper like that. You mean the white spots? What can I add to the tank to help with calcium?

Alittle Montmorillonite Clay like this... Microbe Lift MLKKB2 2 Lbs Calicium Montmorillonite Clay: Patio & Outdoor Decor : Walmart.com is the best additive. Some people just add a cuttle bone but then you can't monitor how much is actually being dissolved in the water. This clay will increase Kh, Gh, and Ph. If you can test your water for Kh and it's at 4 or above you don't need an additive.
