I found some fish online for a good price. I was wondering if anyone on here has ever ordered online before. Is it worth ordering online if you can get fish that are hard to come by in your area?

It is very much worth it if its a trusted site, and the seller packs properly. I've done it six times or so with no losses. Go for it!

Yes, if you can find a good place to order from, it is definitely worth it to order online. That's how the lfs gets it fish.

What would be a good trusted site? What about aqua bid? Any more?

Livaquaria is another good site. Aquabid is also good I've heard.

I like Wet Spot Tropical Fish. They literally sell every fish your ever want. Take a look at the stock list and shoot the guy an email.

Yup! That's my LFS. They ONLY thing they didn't have that I wanted were dojo loaches because, apparently in Oregon, they are an invasive species. Ironically I live just across the river in Vancouver and they're legal to sell but can't find anyone that has them.

Other than that they're the only store I'll deal with unless it's an oddball item.

Aquabid, ThatPetPlace, LiveAquaria, Azgardens, and AquariumFish.net, and Wet Spot are all good sources for fish online. I've used Aquabid and Azgardens so far, have an order in transit from AquariumFish.net right now, and have heard good things about the others. Wet Spot is my LFS as well, can't say enough good things about them! Azgardens had a hiccup in their first order to me in that the flagfish I ordered was a total hellion to every other fish in my tank, but the people at the site were good about fixing things and giving me credit for a replacement order. AquariumFish.net has been super responsive to questions so far, so I don't foresee any problems with them either :)

Dont forget that many members on here also sell fish- its worth checking out the classifieds! I have been happy purchasing fish online as well because your options are only limited by your budget. :)

As for me personally, I support hobbyists first. That's what this hobby is all about. Practically 80% of my fish are either freebies (rehomed by other people) or were bought from hobbyists. All my tetras (11 diamond tetras & 10 von rios) came from HN1 and Severum mamma. My cories came from them also. My geos came from a guy on MFK. The way I look at it is, these are the folks that drive this hobby. They aren't in it for the money, they do it to better our hobby as a whole.

If I cannot find what I am looking for from hobbyists, then I will go to a trusted LFS. If they do not have what I am after, then I will go to online retailers. Usually I never make it to the online retailer stage, I can always find what I am looking for elsewhere.

That being said, a lot of the places listed above are great resources for fish and inverts. They have the shipping down to a science now and most carry decent DOA warranties.
