Butterfly Loaches are not quite as dirty, but their needs are quite different from plecos. They need highly oxygenated, cool, fast moving water, and they would die quickly in a tropical tank. Here is a very in-depth article about the buttefly loach, (which is more commonly known as the hillstream loach.) Hillstream Loaches - The Specialists at Life In The Fast Lane — Loaches Online
I recently had a reticulated hillstream loach. The store I bought it from had him in an 82 degree tank! A few weeks after we brought it home we had an ich problem and turned the tank heat up to 84. There was no change in behavior. We have kept the tank at 82 and the little guy was very happy! Probably one of the most active fish in the tank. Very fun to watch and has beautiful flutters. They feed mostly on bacteria, but my guy would go nuts over a bottom feeder pellet.
