Sponge in surface skimmer

Just wondering do you guys take out the sponge in the surface skimmer for Remora? My thinking is that over time as bacteria populated over the sponge, it will be producing nitrates.

Just clean it once a week. It haeps to reduce the micro bubbles that make it out of the skimmer.

Agreed...I'd rinse it in tap water. That should keep the bacteria levels down to the point that it won't be a problem.
