I have a baby oscar (3 inches) in a 25 gallon tank by himself right now. I am getting ready to have a custom aquarium built. I want to pair him with a young freshwater ray... is that possible? If so, what size of aquarium should I build. If its not possible, what can I pair with an oscar and what size tank would I be looking at?

What do you mean by pair? If you mean as a tank mate it may be a possibility, but freshwater rays get quite large so the would need a very large tank. Even better options for Oscar tankmates without having to 'Super-size' your tank would be almost any South American cichlid which has a similar adult size as the Oscar. Jack Dempseys work pretty well as tankmates. Are you planning on a larger tank in the near future? Oscars can grow quite quickly reaching nearly 14 inches or more.
